DISEASE: Bacterial pustule

HOST: Soybean

Early symptoms are minute, pale green spots on young leaves. Later, small pustules form in the center of spots, best observed on underside of leaves. Spots vary in size and darken with age and lesions coalesce. Dead areas are torn away by wind.

Corky root causes a reduction in size of lettuce heads and root systems; susceptible cultivar (right) and resistant cultivar (left).

Initial symptoms of disease are yellow lesions on taproot and main laterals. Greenish brown bands occur around roots. Root pith may become brown and hollow.

Characteristic symptoms are necrotic, brown spots with angular margins surrounded by distinct yellow halos. The halos are caused by the production of tabtoxin.
